Whole Brain® Thinking for Success

Whole Brain® Thinking began in the 1970s when Ned Herrmann was leading leadership development at General Electric (GE) during a period of rapid innovation. He became fascinated by why equally capable people approached problems so differently: why some leaders thrived in analysis, others in relationships, others in structure, and others in big‑picture ideas.

Drawing on emerging research in creativity, neuroscience and performance, he began mapping these patterns and testing them with GE’s engineers, managers and teams. What emerged was a practical way to understand thinking preferences and how they shape communication, decision making and collaboration.

What the program supports

Thinking drives how people communicate, solve problems, and work together. When teams understand their own thinking preferences and those of others, they can work with clearer thinking, better decisions, and more effective communication and collaboration.

Who’s it for?

For individuals, pairs and teams who want clearer communication, better decisions and more effective collaboration.

What participants learn

Participants learn to interpret their own thinking preferences and understand how these influence their approach to work. They explore practical ways to flex their thinking, communicate with greater clarity, collaborate more effectively, and make decisions with more intention. Each person receives their own personalised thinking profile, offering insights that deepen self-awareness and support more effective ways of working.

How it helps

The experience is practical, evidence-informed and grounded in adult learning principles, strengthening interpersonal effectiveness, enhancing team alignment, and supporting more intentional, productive ways of working. It’s memorable and immediately usable, offering clear entry points for people to apply their insights in the flow of their work.
